The opening match of the Australia vs India T20I series ended in a thriller with the tourists falling short of their target in the last over by four runs.
In what was a rain-affected match at the Gabba, India was given a DLS target of 174 from 17 overs, which the visiting side reduced to 13 from the final over. Marcus Stoinis, who had earlier scored 33 not out from 19 balls, held his nerve to deny a well-set Dinesh Karthik and others from pulling off victory for India.
The visitors finished with 169 for 7 in 17 overs to be on the losing side although Australia scored only 158 for 4 in the same number of overs, the difference being that their innings had a premature end due to rain.
For India, Shikhar Dhawan eased to 76 from 42 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes. However, the southpaw didn’t get enough support from the other batsmen. Dinesh Karthik scored 30 from 13 balls while Rishabh Pant chipped in with 20 from 16 balls.
Leg spinner Adam Zampa bagged the Man of the Match for taking 2 for 22 in four overs, which included the big scalps of Lokesh Rahul and skipper Virat Kohli.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Australia got to 158 for 4 in 17 overs before the rain came down. Glenn Maxwell top scored with 46 from 24 balls while Chris Lynn scored 37 from 20 balls.
